💡 How to Use This Tool

This tool operates in two distinct modes. Select the mode that suits your needs from the tabs above.

Find DIGIPIN

  • 1 Enter a Latitude and Longitude value within the valid range for India.
  • 2 Alternatively, drag the marker on the map or click somewhere to select a specific location visually.
  • 3 You can also use the "Use My Current Location" button to automatically fill in your GPS coordinates.
  • 4 Click Get DIGIPIN to generate your unique 10-character code and view its exact 4x4m cell on the map.

Decode DIGIPIN

  • 1 Enter a valid 10-character DIGIPIN code (e.g., J8-2F-...).
  • 2 You can choose to include or omit the hyphens; the tool handles both.
  • 3 Click Decode to extract the bounding center Latitude and Longitude.

📖 About Find Your DIGIPIN

What is DIGIPIN?

DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number) is an open-source, geo-coded, National Addressing Grid system developed by the Department of Posts, Government of India, in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC (ISRO).

It establishes a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) representing the foundation layer of India's digital address ecosystem, providing a precise, user-friendly way to encode geographic coordinates that can be easily shared and decoded back to latitude and longitude pairs.

A DIGIPIN is a 10-character alphanumeric code consisting of letters and numbers (e.g., G8-5C-3A-9F), without confusing characters. It works primarily offline and provides logical, precise location identification linking physical locations to a digital representation.

At the maximum precision level (10 characters), a DIGIPIN accurately refers to an area of approximately 4m x 4m, providing highly granular location data without relying on complex addresses. It complies with the National Geospatial Policy 2022.

Common Use Cases

  • Service Delivery & E-Commerce: Provide exact location coordinates to delivery drivers without needing complex textual addresses, enabling "Address as a Service" (AaaS).
  • Emergency Response: Share your exact grid location instantly securely.
  • Logistics & BFSI: Bridge the gap between physical and digital addresses safely.
  • Personal Use: Find the DIGIPIN for your home, office, or any specific spot.

Key Features

Bidirectional Conversion

Encode coordinates (Latitude, Longitude) into a 10-character DIGIPIN, or decode any valid DIGIPIN back into its central bounding coordinates.

Highly Accurate

Based strictly on the official open-source algorithm released by India Post. Supported bounding boxes precisely cover the Indian subcontinent.

Privacy & Security

All calculations for DIGIPIN encoding and decoding happen entirely client-side in your browser. No coordinate data or location information is sent to our servers, ensuring complete privacy.

Technical Details

  • Bounding Box: Latitudes between 2.5° to 38.5°, Longitudes between 63.5° to 99.5°.
  • Grid Matrix: 4x4 recursive subdivision.
  • Characters Used: Base16 alphanumeric encoding without confusing characters (F, C, 9, 8, J, 3, 2, 7, K, 4, 5, 6, L, M, P, T).

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number) is an open-source, geo-coded National Addressing Grid developed by the Department of Posts, India, in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad and NRSC (ISRO). It provides a precise 10-character alphanumeric geocode acting as a foundational digital address ecosystem.
At its highest level of 10 characters, the generated DIGIPIN creates a precise 4m x 4m cell. This high resolution is incredibly accurate for emergency response, e-commerce, logistics, and standard consumer mapping needs.
The algorithm uses a specific bounding box (Lat 2.5° to 38.5°, Lon 63.5° to 99.5°) designed to natively cover the Indian subcontinent and its territories with minimum distortion, providing an optimized uniform referencing framework for the country.
Yes! All calculations for encoding and decoding DIGIPIN happen locally in your browser. This tool functions securely offline and your coordinates or location data never leave your device.
Currently, this tool uses the standard algorithm to accurately decode a full 10-character DIGIPIN, which is highly required for pinpoint precision. The format includes hyphens for readability (e.g., G8-5C-3A-9F), but our tool can process it with or without them.
