๐ About Pomodoro Timer
What is the Pomodoro Technique?
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into focused intervals โ traditionally 25 minutes โ separated by short breaks. Each interval is called a "Pomodoro" (Italian for tomato, after the tomato-shaped kitchen timer Cirillo used as a student).
How It Works
- Work for 25 minutes on a single task (one Pomodoro)
- Short break for 5 minutes โ stretch, hydrate, rest your eyes
- Repeat steps 1โ2 four times
- Long break for 15โ30 minutes after every 4 Pomodoros
Common Use Cases
- Deep Work: Coding, writing, research โ tasks requiring sustained concentration.
- Studying: Stay focused during revision sessions and exam prep.
- Creative Work: Design, drawing, music composition with structured rest.
- Remote Work: Combat distractions when working from home.
- Overcoming Procrastination: Committing to just 25 minutes makes starting easier.
Why It Works
Manages Mental Fatigue
Regular breaks prevent cognitive overload, keeping your brain sharp throughout the day.
Creates Urgency Without Stress
The ticking timer creates positive time pressure โ enough to stay focused without feeling overwhelmed.
Makes Work Measurable
Counting Pomodoros gives you a clear picture of how much focused work you accomplish each day.
Reduces Interruptions
Knowing a break is coming makes it easier to defer distractions until the timer rings.
Customizing Your Pomodoros
While 25/5 minutes is the classic setup, feel free to adjust:
- Short sessions (15/3 min): Good for tasks needing frequent context switches
- Long sessions (50/10 min): Suits deep work and complex problem solving
- Extended breaks (30 min): Recommended after 4+ consecutive Pomodoros
